The Sun Touches Humanity

Click on image to see video on YouTube. With Earth silhouetted in the foreground and the Sun a tiny dot in the very center of image, this scene from the short film shows a simulated PUNCH mosaic image of the solar wind between Sun and Earth. The round and square lines represent the rotating fields-of-view of the four Earth-orbiting PUNCH spacecraft which together observe the space weather of the entire inner Solar System every few minutes.

The PUNCH science and outreach teams collaborated with the NASA Science through Shadows project led by Fiske Planetarium, to produce 10-minute flat and full-dome films about the NASA PUNCH mission.

Join PUNCH science and outreach leads as they share how their mission explores the Sun’s corona and solar wind that “touch humanity” physically, intellectually, and emotionally.

The four PUNCH spacecraft in Earth orbit work together to make global, 3D observations of the entire inner heliosphere between the Sun and Earth as a unified system. These “big-picture” observations help to understand the origin and evolution of the solar wind, including the continuous tracking of solar storms from the solar corona to Earth orbit.

Flat Films

Flat films can be viewed by anyone via YouTube in English and in Spanish.

Full-Dome Film

The full-dome film is freely available to planetariums across the US and the world. Request download in 1K, 2K, 4K, and spherical full dome formats through the Science through Shadows Video Download Form.
