PUNCH Website Accessibility Information
We are aware that there are parts of our site that are not yet accessible, but we are continuing to work towards remedying this. It is very important and a high-priority to the PUNCH team to make our site accessible to everyone.
2025-06-04: Accordions (expandable sections) are now accessible, with proper ARIA (which changes depending on state of accordions), focus, proper hierarchy, and hiding/revealing of collapsed accordion content to screen readers (example page). There is some non-standard focus behavior in Safari, but all works as expected on Chrome, FireFox, and Edge.
2025-03-02: Modal overlays (pop-up enlarged images) are now accessible on some pages. This means that an open modal gets complete focus and the base layer is non-interactive until the modal is closed, at which point the focus returns to the original spot. The new code is being added to the rest of the pages as time allows.
2024-08-19: Skip links were added to to all PUNCH pages to skip the main navigation.
2024-08-12: The Petroglyph Inquiry suite of web pages are now live! These pages are focused on an activity for blind and low-vision learners. The pages were written to accessible and easy to navigate.
2024: Improvements were made to tag-hierarchy on many pages. A new suite of accessible pages were created for our petroglyph inquiry. These pages will be improved as we get feedback from our test audience. Many of the accessibility features will then be implemented in the PUNCH site as a whole (such as skip links for navigation).
2023-11-28: The PUNCH main site navigation has been retooled to be accessible, including the proper ARIA tags that change according to the state of the menu elements.
2023-09-01: The PUNCH Mission is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are currently auditing the PUNCH website to identify areas that will need to be brought into WCAG 2.1 compliance. This page will be updated as the work progresses.
Please email us at punch-help@mailman.boulder.swri.edu with feedback or if you encounter accessibility barriers.
Thank you for your patience while we work towards this goal!
